Hello everybody,

This week was our first polish week. We added a bunch of visual and aural feedback, the game is really starting to come together now.

Gameplay

The programmers did a bunch of different things this week. They added the animations for the player and most of the particle effects, which immediately makes our game look more lively. They also implemented the background music and some of the sound effects, which sets to the tone of the game and makes events like takinging damage feel more impactfull. 

Next to that they also bugfixed a bunch of things like f.e the grapple. And continued to finish up the end screen by changing up the HUD and by also showcasing the second and third place in the end screen. To make our end screen feel like a real celebration, we play fireworks in the background.

Art

Since the main menu was very 2D and our whole game is 3D, we decided to change our main menu and victory screen to 3D as well.
We still have some particles ready to finish it off, but so far it looks like this:

We felt like the end screen could use a final touch and decided to add a firework particle that really pushes that victory feeling. Also, a shiny spark particle for the WINNER text was added. For the main level we also wanted to add some small finishing touches. We made a plane trail effect that would play far away in the background and boxes moving over a conveyor belt. So now the background feels more alive but it's done very subtly so it doesn't grab too much attention.

What's next

The artists will make the final sounds and polish up our game so we have a clean endresult. Our programmers will remove the final bugs and implement the last couple of particle effects and sounds. They'll also go through their code and clean everything up.
